Who We Are

The men and women of the Goldstream Hatchery are VOLUNTEERS who are prepared to give of their time and energy, developing and caring for the COHO and CHUM salmon being raised at the HATCHERY.

Our VOLUNTEERS come from all walks of life and share their time, knowledge, and experiences to help preserve and enhance the declining salmon stocks in our Southern British Columbian waters, while meeting people who share the same common interests and ways of life.

The Howard English Hatchery is a model of how public involvement, in wildlife conservation and preservation, can provide environmental rewards without costing the taxpayers large sums of money.

Volunteer groups work regularly at the hatchery on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Special project teams are formed from time to time to get other jobs done.

Our Goals

1. To establish an ongoing program of salmonid enhancement for Southern Vancouver Island streams and rivers.

2. To maintain and improve where possible the number of COHO and CHUM available for the sports fishery, native food fishery, and local commercial and charter operations.

3. To assist local educational institutions in increasing the awareness of the value of the salmonid resource.

4. To co-operate with other groups and agencies having similar aims and interests.
